Control4 Stopped Working After a Router or Broadband Change?
Changing your router or broadband provider is the single most common reason Control4 systems go offline. Your hardware is almost certainly fine — the controller and devices just need their network settings reconfigured to talk to your new network.
Sound familiar?
You upgraded your broadband, swapped to a new router, or your ISP sent you replacement equipment. Everything else in the house reconnected automatically — but your Control4 system is completely dead. No app, no touchscreens, no control. This is by far the most common Control4 issue we see, and it is almost never a hardware fault.
Your broadband provider changed your router and the whole system died
Your ISP sent a new router or upgraded your connection. Your phones, laptops, and Smart TV all reconnected fine, but your Control4 system — lights, heating, audio, blinds — has gone completely unresponsive. The EA controller's network light may be off or flashing, and the app shows offline.
You upgraded to a mesh Wi-Fi system and Control4 stopped responding
You installed a new mesh system from the likes of Google, Eero, or Ubiquiti to improve your Wi-Fi coverage. Now your Control4 devices cannot be found. Mesh networks often change the subnet, disable IGMP snooping, or reassign IP addresses — all of which can break Control4 communications.
Touchscreens and keypads are powered on but show 'No connection'
Your T3 or T4 touchscreens are lit up and the Control4 boot screen appears, but they cannot reach the controller. The physical keypads on the walls might still toggle lights via ZigBee, but nothing intelligent — scenes, schedules, or automations — is working.
The app worked on the old network but will not connect on the new one
Your Control4 app was working perfectly before the change. Now it says 'System offline' or spins endlessly trying to connect. The controller is likely stuck on a static IP that no longer matches your new router's IP range.
Audio and video devices have dropped off the system
Your Sky box, Apple TV, Sonos speakers, or AV receiver are no longer controllable from Control4. These IP-connected devices have been assigned new addresses by the new router, but the Control4 project still references the old ones. They need to be re-identified in Composer Pro.
You cannot find anyone to fix it quickly
Your installer quoted you days or weeks before they can visit. You have been without smart home control since the broadband change and the family is losing patience. You need someone who understands both networking and Control4 — and can get to it today.
How We Reconnect Your Control4 After a Network Change
A structured process that addresses the root cause — not just the symptoms.
Remote Assessment
We start by understanding exactly what changed — new router, new ISP, mesh upgrade, or network reconfiguration. We will ask about your router model, your old and new IP ranges, and how your EA controller is connected (wired or wireless). If your controller has any internet connectivity, we can often begin diagnosis remotely via the Control4 cloud.
On-Site Diagnosis
If remote access is not possible (which is common after a router change), we visit your property and connect directly to the EA controller via Composer Pro. We map out your entire network — controller, touchscreens, switches, audio devices, streaming boxes — and identify every device that has lost its network path.
Fix & Resolve
We reconfigure your Control4 system to work with your new network. This means setting appropriate static IP addresses or DHCP reservations for the controller and every networked device, updating the Composer Pro project to reflect the new network topology, configuring VLANs if applicable, and ensuring multicast traffic flows correctly for audio streaming and device discovery.
Test & Handover
We test every device, every room, and every function — including the Control4 app from your phone, touchscreen navigation, voice control, scheduled automations, and remote access when you are away from home. We also future-proof the configuration so that if your router reboots, the system reconnects automatically.
