Bought a House With Control4? We Will Get It Working For You.

Moving into a home with an existing Control4 system is exciting — until you realise nobody left you the manual, the installer's number, or any documentation. We specialise in auditing, restoring, and handing over inherited Control4 systems to their new owners.

Sound familiar?

You have moved into a beautiful house with touchscreens on the walls, keypads by every door, and speakers in the ceiling. The estate agent mentioned it had a 'smart home system'. But now you are standing in your new kitchen with no idea how to turn the lights on, no documentation, and no one to call.

You have no idea how to use the system

There are touchscreens, keypads, and panels everywhere, but nobody showed you how they work. Pressing buttons either does nothing or triggers something unexpected — lights flash, music starts playing in random rooms, blinds open at odd times. It is baffling and frustrating.

The previous owner did not leave any documentation or passwords

There is no manual, no system diagram, no Wi-Fi passwords for the smart home network, and no installer details. The solicitor says the vendor did not include any smart home information in the handover. You are starting from zero with a system that cost tens of thousands of pounds.

Some parts of the system work but others do not

The lights in the hallway respond to the keypad, but the kitchen touchscreen is frozen, the audio does not play, and the heating seems to have a mind of its own. Parts of the system are working on autopilot, but nothing is configured for how you actually want to live in the house.

You cannot find the previous owner's installer

You have managed to get a name from the vendor but the company is either closed, no longer doing Control4, or not interested in helping someone who is not their customer. You need a fresh start with a dealer who will take the system on properly.

You are not sure if the system is worth keeping

You are considering ripping the whole thing out and starting fresh because it seems like more trouble than it is worth. But you have heard Control4 systems are expensive and you do not want to waste what could be a significant asset if it can be brought back to life.

You have no Control4 account or app access

The Control4 app on your phone asks for login credentials you do not have. The previous owner's account is still linked to the system and you have no way to take ownership digitally. You need someone to guide you through the account transfer and set you up from scratch.

How We Hand Over an Inherited Control4 System

A complete audit, restoration, and training service designed specifically for new homeowners.

1

Remote Assessment

We start with a call to understand what you know about the system and what you have found so far — touchscreen locations, controller cabinets, network equipment, and any documentation the previous owner may have left. We explain the process and give you a clear idea of what the audit will involve.

2

On-Site Diagnosis

We visit your new home and conduct a comprehensive system audit. We locate and identify every piece of Control4 hardware — controllers, touchscreens, keypads, amplifiers, network switches, IR emitters, and smart devices. We connect via Composer Pro to review the full project file and assess what is working, what is broken, and what needs updating.

3

Fix & Resolve

We restore the system to full working order — fixing any faults, updating firmware to the latest OS 3 version, replacing outdated drivers, and reconfiguring the system to suit how you want to live in the house. We set up your personal Control4 account, transfer the Dealer of Record to us, and configure the app on your phone.

4

Test & Handover

We test every room and every function, then sit down with you for a thorough walkthrough. We show you how to control lights, audio, heating, and entertainment from the touchscreens, app, and keypads. We hand you a complete system document — your equipment list, your network configuration, and your support contact details. Your smart home is now genuinely yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start by contacting us for a system audit. We will visit your home, identify all the Control4 equipment, assess what is working and what is not, and create a complete inventory. We will then set up your Control4 account, transfer the system to you as the new owner, and restore everything to full working order. You do not need to know anything about the system beforehand — that is what the audit is for.

The previous owner should ideally update the account details in the Control4 customer portal before they leave. If that did not happen — which is common — we can assist with the transfer process. We help you create a new Control4 account, assign ourselves as your Dealer of Record, and register the system to your name. This gives you full app access and ensures we can support the system going forward.

In most cases, absolutely yes. Control4 hardware is robust and well-built. Even systems that are 5-10 years old can be updated to the latest OS 3 software and continue to perform excellently. The infrastructure — wiring, speakers, touchscreen locations, lighting circuits — is incredibly expensive to install from scratch. Restoring an inherited system is almost always more cost-effective than replacing it.

Our audit covers: identification of all hardware (controllers, touchscreens, keypads, amplifiers, network equipment), a review of the Composer Pro project file (programming, scenes, schedules, automations), assessment of system health (firmware versions, driver status, network configuration), identification of any faults or non-functioning components, and a written report with recommendations. This gives you a complete picture of what you have inherited.

Yes, that is a key part of the handover. The previous owners will have had different routines, preferences, and room usage. We reprogram the system to match your lifestyle — adjusting lighting scenes, heating schedules, audio zones, entertainment sources, and welcome-home automations. The system should work the way you want it to, not the way the previous owners set it up.

That is fine — you do not need them. We can take over any Control4 system regardless of who installed it. Once you change the Dealer of Record to us, we have full access to the system via Composer Pro. We do not need the previous installer's cooperation, project files, or documentation — we can discover everything we need during the on-site audit.

The cost depends on the size and complexity of the system. A typical three-to-four-bedroom home with a single controller, several touchscreens, and multi-room audio takes around half a day. Larger properties with multiple controllers, extensive AV, and complex automation may take a full day or more. We provide a clear quote after our initial conversation, with no hidden charges.
