Sound familiar?

You've bought a beautiful property — but it came with a smart home system you never asked for. The previous owner gave you a vague handover (or none at all), the estate agent had no idea, and now you're living with technology you can't use, can't control, and can't get help with.

You don't know what brand or system you have

There are keypads on the wall, a rack full of equipment somewhere, and maybe a touchscreen or two — but no labels, no manuals, and no obvious brand name. It could be Crestron, Lutron, Control4, or something else entirely.

Some things work but you don't know how or why

The lights come on when you press certain buttons, but you've no idea what each button does. Some rooms seem automated, others don't respond at all. You've been using manual light switches because it's easier.

The app doesn't work or you don't have it

The previous owner may have had an app to control everything, but they didn't hand over the login details — or their account is still connected and yours can't be added. You might not even know which app to download.

You're worried about running costs and hidden complexity

There's equipment in a cupboard or utility room drawing power and you don't know what it does. You're nervous about turning anything off in case it breaks something else. The electricity bill seems high.

The previous owner's installer won't help you

You found the original installer's name, but they say they only support their own clients, or they've quoted an extortionate fee to 'transfer' the system. Some won't help at all because the warranty was with the previous owner.

You're considering ripping it all out

You've thought about stripping the smart home system out and going back to normal switches. Before you do — the system you've inherited is likely worth tens of thousands of pounds and could genuinely transform how you live in the property. It just needs someone who knows what they're doing.

How We Help

We specialise in inherited smart home systems. We'll tell you what you have, make it work for you, and be there when you need us.

1

Free Identification Call

Send us photos of your keypads, touchscreens, and equipment rack. We'll tell you exactly what brand and model of system you have — Crestron, Lutron, Control4, or otherwise — and what it's capable of. No charge, no obligation.

2

Full System Audit

We visit your property and audit every component. We identify every device, check what's working, what's not, and what the system can do. We transfer all access and accounts to you and remove the previous owner's credentials.

3

Personalise & Programme

We reprogram the system to suit how you actually live — your lighting scenes, heating schedules, morning routines, and entertainment setup. We set up the app on your phone, configure voice control if you want it, and walk you through everything.

4

Ongoing Support

We become your dedicated smart home support partner. You'll have a direct line, remote monitoring, and the confidence that if anything goes wrong, you've got someone to call who knows your system inside out.

Frequently Asked Questions

The quickest way is to send us a photo of your keypads and any touchscreens. Crestron, Lutron, and Control4 all have distinctive hardware. Crestron keypads are typically sleek with engraved buttons, Lutron keypads have a characteristic raised-button design (often the seesaw style), and Control4 keypads usually feature backlit square buttons. We can identify your system from a photo in minutes.

Yes. This is standard for inherited systems. The previous owner rarely hands over system credentials. We can access, reset, and reconfigure any Crestron, Lutron, or Control4 system without the original passwords. We'll set up fresh credentials in your name.

In almost every case, it's worth keeping. A professionally installed smart home system typically costs £20,000 to £100,000+ to install. Even if it needs some remedial work, the cost of getting it working properly is a fraction of replacement. And removing it would mean making good all the wiring, patching walls, and replacing keypads with standard switches — which is expensive and disruptive in itself.

Possibly — if their app credentials are still active, they could theoretically still control things or view your home. One of the first things we do during a takeover is remove all previous user accounts, change system passwords, and ensure only you have access. This is essential for your security and privacy.

Absolutely. The previous owner's lighting scenes, heating schedules, and automation routines were programmed for their lifestyle. We reprogram everything from scratch based on how you use each room — your wake-up routine, your preferred lighting levels, your heating preferences, and your entertainment setup.

Our initial identification call is free — send us photos and we'll tell you what you have at no charge. The on-site audit is a fixed-fee visit that typically takes half a day. We provide a written report covering every component, its condition, and our recommendations. Any subsequent programming or repair work is quoted separately.

We'll identify any faulty components during the audit and advise on replacement options. Professional smart home hardware is built to last, so most equipment — even systems installed 8-10 years ago — is still perfectly functional. If anything does need replacing, we source compatible components and integrate them seamlessly.
